Alex Gene Morrison
Alex Gene Morrison graduated from the Royal College of Art in 2002. Since this time he has appeared in numerous shows in London and Internationally. Morrison is also a founding member of the Rockwell Project in London’s East End, an artist run space critically acclaimed for showing innovative new art.
Morrison’s paintings explore our deep rooted needs and desires. The paintings are like snapshots taken by a flaneur of various uncharted cognitive and cultural landscapes. A sensation of searching for something yet unknown that may provide fulfillment runs through the work. The virtual world that is presented could be described as an apocalyptic paradise, an alternative civilization where man is only present through the strange relics and ruins that are left behind. There are structures and life forms scattered through these landscapes that are at once both alien and familiar. The paint application is seductive and sickly sweet, tempting us to enter this strange realm with all of our senses, but like any explorer of the unknown you must beware the potential dangers that may lurk beneath the surface.
